My Journey into Game Development

A few years ago, I discovered Unity, but my passion for game development started much earlier. Before that, I was deeply involved in developing games, primarily using C/C++ and DirectX. I've always been fascinated by the technology behind it.

In the beginning, I focused on 3D programming, but I also built my own 2D engine to have direct access to DirectX’s capabilities. However, my goal was never to develop a finished game—I was always more interested in creating tools that make game development easier.

When DirectX 7 was released, I started getting into 3D programming. Understanding the technology and the mathematics behind it was much more complex. To deepen my knowledge, I developed my own 3D engine. Today, I have a simple DirectX 11 version uploaded to GitHub—just a hobby project with no claim to professionalism. If you're curious, feel free to check it out, but don’t expect too much. With today’s high-performance demands and vast possibilities, it's nearly impossible for a single developer to create something comparable to modern 3D engines.

A few years ago, I came across Unity and started working on First Strike. Inspired by the vertically scrolling Dojin shooter CHO REN SHA by Koichi (Fambine No Yosshin), I created a fast-paced shooter where the player pilots a spaceship from a top-down perspective through waves of enemies.

The first version of the game was developed in 2007 as a test for my self-made 2D engine based on DirectX 7. Later, I created an updated version using 3D technology, also built on DirectX 7. Now, I’m developing a new version using Unity, which allows me to focus more on gameplay without diving too deep into engine development.

Of course, the original concept and gameplay remain unchanged. I hope I can bring this project to life and that it will excite many players. Reinterpreting an existing game concept is much easier for me than coming up with something entirely new—simply because I don’t have the time.

I’d love for you to try out my demo and share your thoughts! Your feedback and suggestions mean a lot to me, not only for improving the game but also for keeping my motivation high. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing others enjoy something you’ve put your passion into. 😊
