The Challenge of Creating a Video Game Alone

Creating a video game alone can be an immense challenge, requiring both technical and creative skills. From conception to completion, a game goes through various complex phases that demand time, dedication, and expertise.

Skipping the Concept Phase

When I began developing this game, I skipped the concept phase. I thought it wouldn't be so difficult to implement an existing idea. However, I was mistaken.

While skipping the brainstorming and concept development stages may save time, it's still crucial to have a clear vision and a deep understanding of the mechanics and gameplay.

Starting as an Inexperienced Unity Developer

I started as an inexperienced Unity developer. Despite having experience in programming and engine development, implementing the various elements remains challenging. Developing a user interface or programming a high-score list with the ability to add new entries can take several hours or even days.

Graphics and Audio Challenges

Furthermore, creating graphics and audio content presents its own challenges. The audiovisual elements must complement the game, requiring expertise in areas such as 3D modeling, animation, texturing, programming, and sound design.

Testing, Organization, and Time Management

Testing the game, along with organization and time management, is crucial to ensuring that all aspects fit together and function properly.

The Importance of Motivation

Not to be forgotten is motivation. Working alone on a project can be lonely and demotivating, especially when encountering technical issues or struggling to bring the vision to life. Without a supportive team, maintaining enthusiasm and seeing the project through to the end can be difficult.
