[2023.10.21] From Code to Player Engagement

In my last post about my journey through the world of game development, I've already written about the numerous challenges related to programming and emphasized that there are many things to consider when developing a game. In addition to the design of the objects and their interaction in the game world, the logic in the code also plays a crucial role. Another important aspect has nothing to do with the technical side, namely whether your game is actually being played. Yes, it happens that nobody wants to play or test your game. This can raise many questions. Is the game too difficult? Is it too easy? Does the design not match the players' expectations? It's crucial to address these questions and optimize the player experience to ensure that your game captures the attention and enthusiasm of players.

There are various reasons why people might not want to play my game. Here are some considerations:

Difficulty Level: If the game is too difficult, it can be off-putting. Players may become frustrated and lose interest. On the other hand, if it's too easy, it can quickly become boring. Finding the right balance is crucial.

Design and Aesthetics: The visual appearance of the game plays a significant role. If the design is unattractive or unappealing, players may be deterred from even trying it.

Target Audience: Understanding the game's target audience is important. Trying to develop a hardcore game for casual gamers or vice versa could lead to disinterest.

Advertising and Marketing: Even the greatest game won't be played if nobody knows about it. Game marketing is crucial. Social media, game developer forums, and other platforms can be helpful in this regard.

I will now finish the end boss of the second level and release a "demo" of the game where players have to defeat the end bosses of both the first and second levels. After that, I will contemplate whether I want to continue developing the game or not.
